The Controlpack Badia Fontestad de la Sénia cycling team presents novelties
The La Sénia cycling team is about to start a new campaign in which only six of last year's riders will remain.
The Contralpack Badia Fontestad, as the team will be called this season, is about to start a new campaign, which will present many new features. The team will be formed by 19 cyclists, of which only six repeat from last season. Paco Espuny, Joaquim Badia, Oriol Beltran, Àlex Ulloa, Èric Miquel and Robert Vallès have renewed. The remaining thirteen will debut with the team and are the following: Guillem Bódalo (CC Martorell), Alejandro Soler (MTB), Miguel Ángel Pizarro and Joaquim Bosque (Corvi Terrassa), Javier Oliver (RunnBikes), Diego Ferrero and George Nikolas (ULB), Jordi Slootjes (Pérez Cánovas), Fraser Jay Turgoose (Escribano), David Gijón (Gsport), Iván Martell (Ecotisa-Goerna), Jaume Adell, who practiced athletics, and Salvador Trias, with an individual license. It is a very young squad with eleven cyclists in the under-23 category.
One of the main novelties in the squad has been the change of sporting director, with the arrival of Pablo Comins to replace Rafa Casero. Comins, a graduate in INEF, is a young coach who has been as physical trainer of Benicàssim and Novasalut-Clínica. In addition, as a cyclist he excelled in the time trial modality. In this new stage he will have the collaboration as assistant of Eugenio Díaz, the mechanic José Luis Vaquero and the masseur Santi Safont.
Preparing the debut
The Controlpack Badia Fontestad will focus its calendar in Aragón, Comunidad Valenciana and Catalunya, and will also participate in various competitions throughout the Spanish geography, as well as making some incursion into French territory. However, one of the main objectives will be to compete at the highest level in the Spanish Cup, where it will repeat as one of the 22 fixed teams that will participate in each event. The debut will be on February 25 at the Guadiana Circuit in the Extremadura city of Don Benito.
New stage
The team manager, Néstor Biosca, is very excited about this new stage that the club and its new sporting director are starting: "we are very satisfied with the work being done by Pablo Comins, a young coach with whom all the riders are delighted". Biosca also has high hopes for the team: "there has been a major reshuffle in the squad, which has been reduced but at the same time rejuvenated, with all its components under 25 years old".
Another huge boost has been the incorporation of a new sponsor: "we have the new sponsorship of Fontestad, one of the most important companies in Spain in citrus fruit production, which joins Controlpack and Badia". At the same time, the continuity of the team is guaranteed for the coming seasons: "we have acquired two cars and a van and new equipment for the next five years, a period in which we will certainly continue to compete", concludes Biosca.
