Types, advantages and applications

Among adhesive tapes, there is one type that stands out for being sustainable, safe and resistant: gummed paper. Specifically, it is a kraft paper tape that adheres to any material thanks to the vegetable glue incorporated in it. It is distributed among the fibers of the surface where it sticks and, with this, a film is created that is difficult to break. It is able to stick in any space, whether on cardboard or plastic, and without complication or difficulty. It is activated with water thanks to the gummed paper dispensers, an ecological and ideal resource for e-commerce.

Characteristics of gummed paper

The gummed paper stands out for being a biodegradable solution and convenient to apply, but it has more strengths:

• Secure, durable and anti-theft sealing. Once the tape is applied, it cannot be removed. It is for single use only and any tampering attempt is visible and evident to the eye, either by the marks left or by the breakage it may cause.
• Cares for the environment. Manufactured with kraft paper, its origin is recycled and 100% natural. In addition to being effective, it is also an ecological and biodegradable resource.
• Real applications. Being an odorless and hygienic material, it is perfect for industries (food, pharmaceutical...), but also for any shipment, both nationally and internationally.
• Fast and convenient dispensers. They favor the work routine, since they facilitate the application of the tape. They can be manual, semi-automatic or automatic, and can be adjusted according to the needs of each order.

Types of gummed paper: simplex and reinforced

Before opting for one or the other, you should take into account what differentiates them and which one best suits the needs of your business. Basically, the crux of the matter lies in the filaments that make up the reinforced gummed paper and that, by contrast, are not part of the simple gummed paper. These filaments make any attempt to break the adhesive tape more difficult and also make it possible to withstand heavier loads.

For example, gummed paper without reinforcement is typically used for orders up to 30 kg and reinforced paper for heavier shipments. However, both types protect the products and are effective, even for export shipments or long-term sealed shipments.

How is it activated?

Unlike other adhesive tapes, gummed paper is activated with water. The wetting machines or gummed paper dispensers, therefore, are applicators that incorporate a reservoir and a sponge, which retains and applies the water. The operation of the machine can be manual or automatic, and according to this we distinguish between:

Manual humidifier. Useful and functional for closing boxes for daily shipment. The length of the belt is adjusted manually and the cutting is carried out by means of a knife that acts instantly. The operation is by means of a lever.

Manual and semi-automatic humidifier. It is operated by means of buttons: two to determine the length of the belt semi-automatically (L1 and L2) and a third one to do it manually. Easy and simple to adjust as needed. Both semi-automatic cycles can be set separately and independently of each other to cut the paper in different lengths.

Automatic wetting machine. The functions and their cycles are programmable: able to memorize the length of the ribbon cut. It operates automatically by pressing the RUN button and both cycles (L1 and L2) operate independently of each other. Recommended for large productions, as it works at high speed.
