In order to reduce packaging costs and at the same time increase capacity, Kronospan has recently added the RoRo StretchPack® packaging machine to its system. This machine enables fully automated 6-sided packaging of wooden pallet parts at Kronospan's production site in Ryomgaard, Denmark.
Reduced use of consumables and increased packaging capacity
One of Kronospan's reasons for investing in a new packaging line is its intention to reduce costs with respect to consumables. Previously, the pallet parts were packed using a film with a separate layer on top. In addition, the outside was coated with printed cardboard. Thanks to the use of the RoRo StretchPack®, Kronospan can now apply a 6-sided sealed packaging to the pallet parts in a single operation. The sealed film packaging protects the wooden pallet parts against moisture and dirt.
At the same time, this allows Kronospan to reduce consumable costs, since cardboard is eliminated and film consumption is reduced. Another important reason for this investment is the possibility of increasing production capacity thanks to the fully automated packaging line.
Ole Brok Møller, Kronospan's operations manager in Denmark, was part of the project evaluation process. He says, "We received the test packaging to evaluate its quality. We also sent samples to our distributors, who agreed with us about the quality and durability. Ole Brok Møller continues, "We are satisfied with the uniformity and high reproducibility of the new packaging.
